Colorado Licensed Architect

The Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) requires all persons practicing architecture in the State to be licensed. About

J.W. Basso, Architect

My first job back in 1981 was working at an architecture and engineering firm in Chicago. I loved it then and continue my passionate pursuit of architecture to this day.

Over 40 years is a long time, and across my career I have worked on thousands of projects that equated to hundreds-of-thousands of dwelling units. My experience is vast as I worked for firms that specialized in educational facilities, commercial space planning, interior design, and every type of residential architecture. For the past 30 years I have had the great fortune of maintaining a rewarding private practice, along with consulting for large architecture firms in the industry.

Looking back at the journey has been truly inspiring. Today, however, I look forward to putting all this knowledge and experience to productive use on your unique project.

Project Consulting

You may be asking yourself, "Where do I start?"

Any time you begin a construction related project, your first concern should always be life-safety. This is the underlying purpose of all building codes, and as an architect, I adhere to the guidance and authority these codes establish.

This is not to say that your project will fall under some code jurisdiction, or that it may even require an architect, but most Cities will require a license stamp to obtain a permit. Simply contact your Cities' Planning or Building Department at the onset of your project to find out.

If you do not need an architects' stamp for your project, I can still assist you as your projects' sounding board, or design consultant. Reach out to me and we can discuss your specific needs.

Architecture

Architecture is far more about problem-solving than the actual structure.

When you have a dream to build a home, how do we get you, the bank, the City, the engineers, the contractors, the suppliers, and the community all saying "Yes?" In an overly simplified manner, that is the role of an architect. Keeping all parties adequately informed and updated as your project moves forward to not inject objections, which translate into stoppages, delays, additional costs, and frustration.

When you fully understand the implications described above, the decision to hire a licensed architect is always your best option.

Site Planning

The land you own, or buying, is a precious resource on the planet – Don’t waste it.

My focus working with large developers and National home builders laying out sites with hundreds of lots, or individuals buying land for their home is no different. Land is a limited and valuable asset. In many cases depending on location, land is more valuable on paper than the structures constructed upon it.

The point here is that space, whether inside your home creating rooms and living areas, or outside defining areas of relaxation and enjoyment, needs to be connectively developed. Every square foot needs to be considered for its function and value.

Construction

Watching an individuals’ dream begin to physically take shape is a rewarding experience.

While much of my career has been centered around the mass production of housing, I am most excited when working with individuals constructing custom homes. There is a personalization and specific use-case in these projects. When dirt starts moving and construction starts, that’s when the real fun begins.

As your architect I will follow your project through its construction and completion. When space begins to physically develop, opportunities for alterations or additions may arise. Studying potential changes in a timely manner will help determine associated costs and provide you with choices of whether to pursue or not.
